Lakers likely to re-sign Jordan Hill; Ramon Sessions a different story - SportingNews.com

The contracts of two players acquired by the Lakers at the trade deadlineâ€"point guard Ramon Sessions and power forward Jordan Hillâ€"are up at season’s end, and one is more likely than the other to be back in L.A. next season.

It “seems increasingly probable” that the Lakers will try to re-sign Hill, the L.A. Times reports, despite him being charged with a third-degree felony for an alleged assault that occurred before the trade from Houston. Sessions, however, will probably to test the free agent market, the L.A. Daily News notes.

Hillâ€"who is accused of choking a former girlfriend in February, when he was still with the Rocketsâ€"has seen an increasing on-court role for the Lakers. He had 12 points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes in the Lakers' 92-88 Game 4 victory over the Denver Nuggets Sundayâ€"his third double-double in six games since becoming a regular member of the rotation, The Times points out.

"He's been a huge contributor for us ever since we inserted him in the lineup,” Kobe Bryant said. "He's been extremely consistent. He's given us a huge, huge boost."

"Being a free agent, anything can happen," Hill said. "I'm just trying not to focus on that right now. I'm just trying to focus on this ring. It will definitely feel great to have a ring on my finger and after the season, we'll go from there."

Sessions, meanwhile, is now the Lakers' starting point guard and averaged 12.7 points and 6.2 assists in 23 regular-season games in L.A. He’s averaged 13.8 points and 4.3 assists in the four playoff games against the Nuggets.

He has the option of terminating his contract July 1 and hit free agency, where he’ll likely be able to land a more lucrative deal elsewhere, according to the Daily News.

"It's something I'll deal with," Sessions said

"... It's definitely something that's not in the back of my mind right now because I'm trying to focus on the playoffs. It's not even a concern. I don't know what's going to happen. I know it's coming.”
